Thank you, thank you, a million times thank you! [Oct. 23rd, 2006|03:03 pm]
We want to thank everyone for the support that we've been given for our 3rd Annual event! It was a full day and we have nothing but excellent things to say about our supporters, our sponsors, our players, and every one of you who were unable to attend but still watched the game via WebCast. Special thanks to VirtuPoint for broadcasting the game!

Wow... Gordie Howe. What a fantastic gentleman! We give great thanks to the entire Howe family, including Gordie, Travis, and Marty for the support we got from them. Every fan and committee member was lucky to meet Gordie. Our celebrities were proud to play for him, and it really raised the level of the game to a friendly competition! This is a day I'm sure we won't ever forget!

Congratulations to Aimee F. from Fort Worth, Texas and Jack A. from Pasadena, California! They were our two raffle winners and were able to meet Gordie Howe and have their picture taken!

Also thanks and congratulations to everyone who participated in our silent auction at the event and took home these wonderful items donated by our stars!

So, where do we go from here?

To Sleep!  :)

We're in the process of going through everything from the game and will be updating the web site soon with pictures, recaps, online auction goods, available merchandise to purchase, and other surprises. Please bear with us during the next few days as we get through it all. We know it will be worth the wait!

Those of you who attended, please let us know how it was for you! We love the feedback and we're sorry we couldn't meet each and every one of you in person to say thank you!

We'll update the LJ when we update the web site, so check back for more to come!

GAME DAY IS HERE!!! [Oct. 22nd, 2006|07:38 am]
[mood | excited]

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The day has finally arrived! We're all in the last moments of getting ready for this game and this day, and we want to thank everyone who's been visiting our web site and LJ here for staying with us.

Here's to a fantastic day! We hope to see you there, and for those of you who cannot join us in person there will be a webcast on our web site starting 5 minutes before our Celebrity/Pro Game! Go to http://www.freezethedisease.org/2006_webcast.htm for the link to watch the game. We'll also be offering a nice selection of merchandise for an online auction as well, so if you can't be there to bid on anything, the opportunity will be there as well.

It was a mad rush at the printer last night with some last minute changes. Dave Taylor will not be able to join us, but Igor Larionov - one of the Russian Five and called the "Wayne Gretzky of Russia" - will be joining us! That's worth every bit of the rush!

Thanks again! Have a good day and let us know what you think!

SPECIAL GUEST COACH!!!! [Sep. 25th, 2006|02:56 pm]

We are very pleased to announce a special guest coach for our game,
Mr. Hockey® himself: Gordie Howe!!!

Gordie Howe made his NHL debut in 1946 at the age of 18 playing right wing for the Detroit Red Wings. He led Detroit to four Stanley Cups and to first place in regular season play for seven consecutive years (1948-9 to 1955-6), a feat never equaled in NHL History. He is the only person in hockey history to compete in 5 different decades at the professional level. At the time of his retirement Mr. Hockey's professional totals, including playoffs, for the NHL and WHA combined, were first. He finished with 2421 games played, 1,071 goals, 1,518 assists, and 2,589 points.

We are very pleased to welcome Gordie to our event!

Lessons in Patience [Aug. 7th, 2006|09:01 pm]

Just wanted to post an update to let you know that we're still here!  The committee had a wonderful meeting this weekend to discuss this year's coming game and we have so many ideas and possibilities waiting in the wings.  The biggest piece of the puzzle, of course, is the date of the game.  We have a list of possibilities and are waiting for final confirmation to come through before we can make the announcement and begin the heavy planning to make this year the best yet!

This is a lesson in patience.  We're as anxious as any to get underway, but we do anticipate the final word in the next few weeks and the sale of tickets to begin by September.  If there are any delays, we'll let you know as soon as we can.

But trust me, it will be worth the wait!

To keep us going in the meantime, we would love to hear from those of you who've attended the game the past two years!  We can get so busy putting the game on and trying to provide an entertaining event that we don't get to see it from your eyes!  Was it a fun time?  What do you remember most about the day?  Did you meet anyone special/unique/fun at the event?  If you guys have any stories or pictures that you'd like to share, we'd love to hear all about it!

As ever, keep checking back for updates!

Welcome! [Jun. 19th, 2006|12:45 pm]
Welcome to the official Freeze the Disease web log!

We, the Freeze the Disease Foundation and committee members, are in the works to present the Third Annual Freeze the Disease Celebrity Hockey Game.

Last year was a wonderful event at Ice Station Valencia and we'd like to thank all those who attended in person as well as those who made donations via the web and made that event such a success! We had visitors from all across the Southern California area as well as friends from other states including Michigan, New York, Indiana, and Texas! Thanks to the donations and support last year, we were able to raise $58,488!!! This year, we hope to do even better!

Our home for the past two years has been the Ice Station and we thank them for all their support.  This year we're going to be moving to the Staples Center, home of the NHL Los Angeles Kings! We will have the event in coordination with a King's home game, so until the new 2006-2007 NHL schedule is released in August we won't have any information to share as far as a game date.  As soon as we know, we'll share the information with you!   Please check the blog here or our web site for updates!

Some of the celebrities we've invited to this year's coming game?

Enrico Colantoni
Jim Fox
Phil Esposito
Wayne Gretzky
Marty McSorley
Jason Priestley
Luc Robitaille
Alan Thicke

and of course... Michael Vartan!

We have a lot of things in the works, and we think that you'll be pretty excited!  We know we are!  Thanks again for all your support and we'll update you as information becomes available!
